Top Dressing

Professional top dressing improves soil quality and promotes a smoother, healthier lawn by enhancing nutrient levels and supporting stronger turf growth.

Top Dressing: Fescue (Cool Season Turf)

This is to add crucial organic nutrients and seeds to an existing turf to improve turf health and thickness. This improves the quality of the soil for the turf and allows for water and fertilizer to reach the root zone more effectively. Crucial things to consider are the type of material used, timing, and application process.

Our Process

Time of this application 

  • Fall: generally, right before aeration and over-seed or right after aeration and over- seed.

Material

  • We use certified organic compost from a local source. (80%)
  • We blend the organic material with a screened topsoil. (10%)
  • We use certified PGA bunker sand. (10%)
  • Blue tag certified Fescue seed is mixed at a rate of 25lb per half yard of material.
      • These materials are blended by us for each top dress application we complete

Or: We can use a certified organic compost from a local source.

Process of Applying

  • We use an Earth and Turf top dress machine so we can control the thickness of the product applied to the turf.
  • We use a chain drag to work the material into the turf area.
  • We also use hand rakes and leveling rakes to work the product into the turf.

Our pricing for this service is based on the square footage of Fescue Turf the customer has and can be tailored to the customer’s needs.

Overseeding improves lawn density, fills in bare or thinning areas, and strengthens turf, especially for cool-season grasses.

Top Dressing: Bermuda Turf or Zoysia (Warm Season Turf)

This is to add crucial organic nutrients to existing turf to improve turf health and thickness. This improves the quality of the soil for the turf and allows for water and fertilizer to reach the root zone more effectively. Crucial things to consider are the type of material used, timing, and application process.

Our Process

  • During the active growing season 
  • After the turf greens up from winter dormancy

Material

  • We use certified organic compost from a local source.

OR

  • We use Soil 3 from Super Sod (Reel-mowing customers).

My husband and I started using Lawn Impressions about one year ago! We moved into a relatively new property and the quality of the grass seed was not optimal. At the beginning of the pandemic, I relocated to Concord from out of state.  After several unsatisfactory experiences with temp services (e.g., Angie's list bookings) I found Lawn Impressions and started using their weekly lawn care plan.  A year or so later, I contacted the owner, Elise, about doing some hardscaping in the backyard.  What a great decision!  She and Josh took my ideas and created a design that has exceeded my expectations as far as form and functionality.  They started work on schedule and didn't stop until the projects were complete.  The following spring they relandscaped my front beds (builder installed).  They have a great team of employees all of whom I've come to know by name. Josh and his crew did an outstanding job with my landscaping needs!!
